Take Back The Night at UVa 2009
Week of Events April 6-9

Saturday, April 4th Dance Party
8 PM Tea Bazaar

, a electro, hip-hop, pop band from NYC is coming to Charlottesville to rock your socks off to support TBTN!! DJ Yours Truly will follow Menya and spin tracks to keep you dancing all night long. All proceeds are donated to the Shelter for Help and Emergency and the Sexual Assault Resource Agency. All ages welcome! Tickets are available online at or all week on the lawn. $5 or at the door for $8.

Monday, April 6 How to Date a Survivor Panel

8 PM Maury 209

How to Date a Survivor" is a forum to raise awareness about sexual and dating violence and its interplay with personal relationships. One of the most popular week of events, a panel of survivors openly tell their stories and field questions from the audience. Refreshments provided.

Tuesday, April 7 Mock Trial
8 PM Trial Room: 4th floor Newcomb

Hosted by TBTN in conjunction with the Sexual Assault Board (SAB) and University Judiciary Committee, this event is organized to inform the UVa community and the community at large about various resources available to victims of sexual assault. It will be a relaxed setting and the trial will be presented just like a real SAB trial. Come educate yourself and your community! Refreshments Provided.

Wednesday, April 8 Art Show
Newcomb Main Lounge 10am-6pm
With live piano music from 11am-12pm and 4:30-5:30pm
Hope Community Center: 7-9pm

Drop into Newcomb Main Lounge on Wednesday anytime from 10am-6pm to view selected artwork and view part of the Clothesline Project! Make your own t-shirt, listen to music, and express yourself through various individual art projects that we will incorporate into the installation.

From 7-9pm at Hope Community Center, come by to take part in an open community art project that focuses on domestic violence and sexual assault within marginalized communities. We will be piecing together a giant mural to focus on coming together and healing in the wake of sexual violence. You don’t have to be artistic to partake in this unique experience! Refreshments will be provided.

Directions to Hope Community Center: From the corner, walk up 14th St and make a right onto Gordon Ave. Gordon Ave comes to a T-intersection. At this intersection, make a right onto 11th St. Walk like 5 houses down and the center is on your right.

Thursday, April 9

Lee Park, Downtown- Market Street, 5:30-7 pm

Come out to the Take Back the Night Rally, in Downtown Charlottesville! There will be free food from your favorite Charlottesville restaurants, entertainment from UVa’s talented Jazz students, UVa’s oldest co-ed acapella group, the New Dominions, as well as UVa’s Indian Dance Group and highlighted speaker Alison Caviness-Gibson. Don't miss some free food, great entertainment, and a wonderful celebration to unite against dating and sexual violence!

Downtown to UVa 7-8pm

Vigil and Survivor Speak Out
Amphitheater, 8 pm Rain Site: Mem Gym.

The Vigil is the culminating event of TBTN. This night is a tribute to survivors of dating and sexual violence, giving them an anonymous space to share their stores. Come listen and share in the healing and empowering experience.
